Two local female staff within the Spar Shop were being hostage for over two hours on Saturday in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway.
Police Scotland reported that the two females, aged 32 and 26 were held captive by a male person within the store in Butts Street at 4:55pm.
The area was contained and cordoned off and further police resources directed to the scene.
Trained police negotiators attended and began negotiating with a man within the premises.
The two female shop assistants left the shop premises at 7:15pm, and were taken for a medical check by police and ambulance staff.
About 8:30pm a 26 year old man was negotiated safely out of the shop and was taken into police custody.
No person was injured during the incident.
