Congratulations to the Civil War Cinema exhibition were given on Monday as South of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine laid a motion before Parliament for the display in the Bakers Oven.
The collaborative project was led by the National Galleries of Scotland Communities Outreach project in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council Museums, Youth Justice and Countryside Ranger Services as part of the Nation//Live, a nationwide project exploring key moments in Scottish history.
Teenagers from across Dumfries-shire were encouraged to explore the graves and monuments of the Covenanting period of the seventeenth century when communities in the south-west of Scotland took to the hills to hold religious services and question their relevance to their lives today.
Commenting, the SNP MSP said she would encourage anyone who is able to visit the exhibition before it closes.
“Civil War Cinema is a truly thought provoking project, exploring the ‘killing times’ of the seventeenth century Covenanting period,” Ms McAlpine said.
“It is fantastic to see so many young people taking an interest in Scottish history and getting involved with such a powerful and important project.
The exhibition is taking place in the Bakers Oven and closes on the 8th of June.
