Police Pleased with Hold of Dumfries Demonstration

Police Scotland were pleased that the demonstration and public procession held in Dumfries on Saturday passed without major incident.

Around 120 people in total attended the parade and demonstration and the vast majority behaved in a responsible manner.

Only three arrests took place, with three men aged 55 years, 29 years and 21 years all being reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to public order offences.

The three arrested had affiliations with the Scottish Defence League and English Defence League.

Chief Inspector John Thomson said patrols were increased during the day to make sure the organised demonstration and march were appropriately policed.

“This was to ensure the safety of the public, the people involved and minimise disruption to the wider community,” Chief Inspector Thomson said.
