South of Scotland MSP, Joan McAlpine, has called for local people to raise their hand to volunteer in the upcoming Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. McAlpine accompanied the Sun Bus Tour on the 12th February at Dumfries’ DGOne Complex; where she met the Games Mascot – Clyde Thistle – and got to try out some new sports.
Speaking at the event, McAlpine urged that it’s a great opportunity for local people to play their part in an event that will raise the profile of Scotland, “Volunteering at the Games is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people, as well as having some fun.”
The team advised that volunteers outside the Glasgow area will be able to claim expenses for their time at the Games.
McAlpine also added, “You don’t need to have any previous experience volunteering, as full training will be provided. But for the vast majority of roles they are just looking for friendly folk who are committed to helping make the Games the best show Scotland has ever seen.”
Applications for volunteering close on the 28th of February and can be found at volunteering.glasgow2014.com/
